Tom Tonks moves to Tamworth

Tom Tonks moves to Tamworth

Nigel Gregg11 Mar 2020 - 08:21

Midfielder TOM TONKS has left Stourbridge for a fourth time after agreeing a move to league leaders TAMWORTH FC.

Having returned to the club during the summer from Alvechurch, Tom chalked up 38 appearances this season (32 + 6 sub) and scored three times, taking his overall career figures for the Club to 182 appearances (154 + 28 sub) with 13 goals scored.

The hard-working central midfield player, who has a tremendous long throw in his armoury, joined Halesowen in March 2013 after previously playing for Brocton and Tipton Town and he enjoyed two excellent full seasons at the Grove. Tom originally joined us in June 2015 but moved on to AFC Telford in December 2015 before returning in March 2016. In the summer of 2017, he signed for Solihull Moors, but getting limited game-time at Moors, he opted to return to the Stourbridge fold in September 2017. He missed the first half of last season after undergoing ankle surgery but returned to the side in early December before getting a few games under his belt on dual registration with Walsall Wood. Once back with the Glassboys he grew frustrated with his limited opportunities amid stiff competition for places and he opted for a move to Alvechurch in February 2019. He played his part in their fine end of season run before heading back to Stourbridge in June 2019 in the wake of Ian Long’s appointment.

The timing of his move means that his first Tamworth appearances could be against the Glassboys this Saturday!
