His excitement at being at the football club has continued to shine through as we look towards the future and he aims to get the club into the National League North in the not-so-distant future
‘I knew there would be a lot of work to do structurally in terms of the squad and the club both on and off the pitch. I’m excited by the players we have been able to retain with a good mix of young hungry players as well as those with vast experience of the level.’
He has not been afraid to make changes to the playing squad and we have seen no fewer than eleven new/returning players arrive in Amblecote over the last few weeks from a range of different clubs both above and below us in the pyramid alongside six retained players.
‘We were always going to bring in several new faces and I knew that would have to happen to help the club progress as it hasn’t been good enough over a number of years. We had a look and identified what we want going forward and we’ve brought a number of really good, talented young footballers to the club. We are getting a really good balance of experience as well with some of the older players we’ve brought in and are in the process of bringing in.
Creating an excellent relationship with the fans and community is an integral part of how Liam wants to move the club forward and this has already begun to form within his first few weeks at the club.
‘I’ve already been meeting a lot of the regulars day to day around the club and getting to know a number of them before we’ve kicked a ball has been really good. I’m loving getting to know my new surroundings. There’s still lots to do but I’m really happy with where we are at and the work we’ve started behind the scenes.’
Preseason is fast approaching and we are all looking forward to seeing Liam’s side in action as we prepare for an exciting season ahead.
‘The team will be back in just over a week as we prepare for our first friendly on the 13th of July. They all have pre-preseason packs to complete to ensure they are ready to come back in and get to work at the end of June before our first friendlies start.’
Liam and his staff, who have almost all joined from Rushall Olympic with him, have been putting in the hours behind the scenes as they prepare to start this new chapter for both us and themselves. They will also be enhancing the medical department to give us the best chance of competing at the top end of the season which will continue to be overseen by Rich Drewett whilst Lauren Holden comes in as Sports Therapist, and our men’s academy team sports therapist, and Harleigh Piearce comes in to also support the team.
‘It was great to meet everyone at the meet the manager event last week and get to discuss everything we want to implement and achieve next season.’ reflected Liam. ‘I was excited to reveal some of the plans for off the field such as the changing room and boardroom revamps and also get a feel of where we’re at.’
‘It was important to me to be able to show the fans that this journey we are about to begin is only possible with our fans behind us and engaging with them is really important to build up that good rapport with them. This season, myself and the players will need them and we want them to know that they are on that journey with us…one heart, one way!’
