Reece Styche’s spectacular overhead kick 12 minutes from time handed Stour a lifeline after the Brakes had forged into a 2-0 lead, but they were unable to fashion an equalizer in the closing stages and Leamington made the game safe three minutes from time with a third goal.
After a bright start in which Stourbridge probed the Leamington defence without much success, the Brakes began to exert a measure of control and went ahead on 26 minutes when Devon Kelly-Evans was afforded a fraction too much time and space to measure an excellent floated shot over Charlie Price and into the far corner.
The lead was doubled ten minutes into the second half when George Forsyth was unable to cut out a through ball, allowing Dan Turner to take the ball around Price and stroke it into the empty net.
Leamington were as close as possible to making it three when Turner’s header hit the inside of the post and rolled across the face of goal as Stour clung to hopes of a comeback, and the Glassboys seized on that reprieve when Styche acrobatically met Darryl Knights’ corner to find the top corner from 10 yards out.
Knights curled a shot just wide and substitute Dan Gyasi had optimistic shouts for a penalty waved away as Stour pressed, but Leamington had the final word when Price came out to claim a floated free kick but was unable to cling on, leaving James Mace to turn the ball home despite the despairing efforts of Lee Vaughan.
Congratulations go to Leamington on their eighth Birmingham Senior Cup triumph, but at the same time our thanks go to Stuart, Leon and the whole squad for their efforts in reaching the final, and on a tremendous second half of the season.
