Friendly - Stourport Swifts 2 Stourbridge 1

Nigel Gregg10 Jul 2021 - 18:15

252 days since the men's first team had last taken to the field, Mark Yates' men returned to action with a pre-season visit to Stourport Swifts.

The home side, with the benefit of one game under their belt already, had the better of the first half proceedings and led 1 - 0 at the break thanks to a 17th minute goal from R'mar Murray. He outmuscled Darragh Bustin on the left-hand edge of the box before tucking away a low shot past keeper Tom Allsopp - who was borrowed from Solihull Moors to cover for the injured Charlie Price.

After a ragged opening 45 minutes, Stourbridge improved after the interval and got back on level terms in the 56th minute when Darragh Bustin was fouled inside the penalty area and Greg Mills made no mistake from the resulting spot-kick.

Swifts rallied though to re-take the lead on 74 minutes when the visitors defence was opened up through the left channel area. A Swifts substitute clipped a shot goal-wards over the diving Allsopp and Ben Tilbury ran in to make sure the ball found the net. A late push from the Glassboys failed to bring an equaliser with Swifts retaining their lead to the final whistle.

Stourbridge head to RUGBY TOWN next Saturday for our next friendly match - our first visit to Butlin Road for a few years!
