Stourbridge will be hoping that there are no weather issues at Hayden Road on Saturday after going without a league game since the 3 - 3 draw at Needham Market at the beginning of November, partly because our scheduled visit to Biggleswade Town was postponed on November 16th due to a waterlogged pitch.
The impending arrival of commanding central defender Jamie Willets from Alvechurch will bolster the Glassboys playing ranks with Jordan Williams and Tom Turton ruled out of our next fixture through suspension. The walking wounded from the last 7 days will need to be assessed beforehand.
Stourbridge have fallen back to 13th during their run of FA Cup and Trophy matches and now have several games in hand on all the sides above them. Ian Long's side have collected 21 points from 11 league games so far.
The Northamptonshire hosts sit 6th in the league standings with 26 points from 17 games with recent wins away at Alvechurch and at home to Lowestoft Town helping to lift them to the fringes of the play-off spots.
At home they have won 5, drawn 1 and lost 2 . Successive heavy home defeats in the first half of October (2 - 8 v Bromsgrove Sporting and 0 - 3 v Coalville Town) have helped leave Diamonds with a negative goal difference (-2) at the moment despite their current lofty position.
Incidentally they were knocked out of the FA Trophy earlier this month by South Shields with the South Tyneside side winning 4 - 0 at home in the 2nd Qualifying Round before facing Stourbridge in the next round a few days ago when a stoppage time own goal salvaged a replay for the Glassboys.
Diamonds have welcomed back former St Neots and Stratford Town striker Nabil Shariff to strengthen their attack and provide support to Tom Lorraine.
Stourbridge completed a league double over Diamonds last season with a couple of 2 - 1 victories.
The home game in August 2018 saw Leon Broadhurst grab a headed 90th minute winner after Jack Duggan had nodded a Robert Thompson-Brown free-kick back across goal.
Stourbridge also triumphed in the return fixture back in April this year. The win at Hayden Road secured the Glassboys place in the end of season play-offs, however this would be the last time Gary Hackett's side tasted victory prior to the departure of the long serving boss in May.
Just as in the first game Stourbridge fell behind with Nathan Hicks finishing eloquently to put the hosts ahead on 18 minutes but Stourbridge responded positively and were deservedly back on level terms in the 35th minute with a driven low 30-yard shot from Thompson-Brown catching out Heath in the Diamonds goal and beating his dive.
Luke Benbow came on for Callum Powell with twenty minutes remaining and with the Glassboys making most of the late running, it was no surprise that Benbow marked his return with what proved to be the match winner as he capitalised on a defensive calamity. A long throw-in from Aris Christophorou bounced into the near post area where Alex Collard miscued his clearance straight up in the air. It took a while to come down and then Liam Dolman inadvertently turned the ball against Aaron Forde as he tried to bring the ball under control and it broke to Benbow and he thumped his shot high into the roof of the net to earn Stourbridge their first away win since early January.
